"Stormwind honors those who serve!”
- Varian, High King of the Alliance
Few would have expected that the gladiator known only as Lo’Gosh was in truth the missing ruler of Stormwind, Varian Wrynn. As High King of the Alliance, his actions have shaped the destiny of Azeroth, and soon the entirety of the Nexus!
Read on for a breakdown of some of Varian’s talents, a video highlighting gameplay of our first Multi-Class Hero, and some tips and tricks around drafting Varian, the High King of the Alliance!
Talent Highlights:
Victory Rush – Being able to sustain yourself in battle is incredibly powerful on all front-line characters. Varian’s Victory Rush talent grants him the ability to stay healthy in the heat of battle by providing a burst of health on Basic Attacks that refreshes as minions die around Varian.
Warbringer - Granting Varian his only hard form of crowd control outside of the Taunt Heroic Ability, Warbringer gives Varian’s charge a short stun effect, making it an excellent tool for chasing, bursting down Assassins, or interrupting channeled abilities while also lowering Charge’s cooldown.
Shattering Throw – Granting Varian a ranged attack on a medium cooldown, Shattering Throw does massive damage to Shields, meaning Varian can quickly burst through even some of the tankiest bruisers and Warriors in the game, despite assistance from their personal and allied shielding abilities.
Friends and Foes:
Works well with:
Varian has multiple easy to land crowd control Abilities that can allow Chromie’s Sand Blast and Dragon’s Breath to land consistently, such as Taunt and Warbringer’s Charge. |
Varian and Kerrigan together have strong ganking potential, due to them both having point-click engage tools and decent damage. When combined with Taunt or Colossus Smash at level 10, the combination gets truly terrifying. |
Zagara’s strong lane presence and early game bully potential shores up Varian’s weaker early game. She can provide that early game edge that Varian’s team needs until he can reach level 10 and unlock his full potential. |
Struggles Against:
Since Varian gains more power at level 10 than most Heroes, Sylvanas’ powerful early game pushes are difficult for Varian to handle. |
As a melee Assassin that relies primarily on Basic Attacks to deal damage, Li Li has the ability to shut down Varian as he’s charging in. |
As another good early game pushing Hero, Xul offers Varian troubles towards the beginning of matches. When combined with Bone Prison’s root and Cursed Strikes attack speed slows, Varian can be almost completely shut down if he doesn’t pick his fights correctly. |
