The pro League of Legends scene in South Asia has been snowballing during the last couple of years, with huge events like the Asian Games Qualifier and the LoL India Champions Cup (2018) bringing new League talent to the stage. Players from India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh all competed in tournaments which drew in over 200 players.
Global eSports (GE) is world renowned “Player First” professional esports organization with performance and content as their two pillars. It has over 80 talented young members under their wing. They have been supporting the South Asian League of Legends community for two years and counting consecutively. In 2018, LoL India Champions Cup was one of the biggest tournament organized by the community and supported by Global esports and this year the duo is back with South Asia Champions Cup.
This mammoth event--spanning May through June 2019--pits the top 32 teams in the region against each other, to each battle it out and be crowned the best team in the region. The South Asia Cup consists of 4 stages:
Group Stage (32 Teams):
The Group Stage divides the 32 teams into 8 groups of 4. The top 8 teams in the tournament have been seeded and placed into the 8 separate groups.
Each team in a group plays against the other 3 teams once, and the top 2 teams in each group qualify for the Knockout Stage.
Knockout Stage (16 Teams):
Teams which secure the 1st place in their respective groups are matched randomly with a team placing 2nd from another group to now play a single Knockout Match (Best of 3). The winners of each knockout match qualify for the League stage.
League Stage (8 Teams)
The 8 teams qualifying out of the Knockout stage play a single round robin league format. Each match is a best of 1 and the top 4 teams within the League qualify for the Playoff Stage.
Playoffs (4 Teams)
The top 4 teams in the League Stage qualify for the playoffs - the team placing 1st chooses between the 3rd or 4th placed teams as opponents, while the team placing 2nd faces off with the other.
