Minecraft news » Weekly Recap - The Holidays, The Contest & More

It's That Time of Year Again

Every year, there is a massive outpouring in content related to the holidays, and 2011 is no different as we get into the winter holidays. One in particular that caught my attention was ChristmasCraft, and it comes with a slew of features - more widespread snow, holiday treat recipes, the ability to grow a Christmas tree, decorations, stockings, and so much more. Interestingly enough, the mod is set up in such a way that widespread snow and seasonal monsters only come out during December. If you're looking for a mod to capture the spirit of the season, this is definitely worth a look.

I won't comment on how much time I spent playing this mod instead of paying attention to my family during the holidays. Their presents may still be unopened.

Monthly Contest Ongoing

Some time ago, we began a SWTOR-themed Content Contest, and the number of entries so far is staggering. I've always run on the assumption that a given content contest will attract a large number of players that also happen to be interested in the target theme; however, I've been surprised so far at the sheer number of entries so far, and we're not even halfway through the entry period! There are tons of high-quality submissions so far, and I'm very much looking forward to seeing where this contest goes from here - you guys never cease to amaze us with the quality of stuff you come up with.

As we see more interest in Content Contests, we may see more prizes as well - keep an eye out for that.

Minicraft Takes Off

Minicraft - which could have easily been a small, passing game - is rapidly becoming a classic in it's own right, despite being created from scratch in a mere 48 hours. The amount of buzz surrounding this top-down adventure game grows by the day, with numerous strategies, hints and tips surfacing, as well as a host of helpful videos. Once, long ago, Minecraft had similarly small, humble roots; it makes you think. Could Minicraft be another big hit? What about Cobalt? Only time will tell.
