Minecraft news » Climate Hope City: A Look at Climate Change in Minecraft
Youtuber Adam Clarke (more popularly known as "Wizard Keen" over at EverydayMinecraft), in collaboration with the building team Blockworks and mapmaker/designer Dragnoz, has demonstrated inside Minecraft some pretty amazing concepts - some actually in use today, some in the active prototype stage - related to climate change in the real world. While the city looks pretty remarkable on its own, it has a number of amazing concepts being used in some cities even today: vertical farms, kinetic energy-to-power sidewalks, hydrogen-powered boats, and "green roofs", just to name a few.
Seeing these concepts visually is pretty impressive on its own, but the map is also very interactive! Players can switch on or off certain elements to see their effect on Climate Hope City, interact with some of the devices directly, or get direction to sites and in-game information sources that further explain each creation.
Aside from being a pretty amazing map on its own, Climate Hope City aims to present possible (or actively existing) changes to the way we live (in cities especially) to combat climate change, in an easy-to-understand, visual way. So many of these concepts sound neat on paper, but can be difficult to get one's head around, and the City does a pretty phenomenal job of presenting that to everyone.
