Earlier this month, Naples Gamecon was the site of the StarCraft II World Championship Series Italy Nationals. Following five qualifiers hosted by ESL and Vasacast, the top eight Italian players went through to the Nationals event, each hoping to win one of the two available slots in the Europe Finals.
The matches got off to a furious start and, in Round 2, the crowd saw Team Redbyte Italia’s StarEagle beaten 2-0 by favorite ClouD and relegated to the lower bracket. Team ALTERNATE’s ClouD then went on to face 17-year-old JeaL of team inFerno eSports and was eventually defeated 1-2, sending ClouD to the lower bracket to face StarEagle once again in Round 4. This time the tables were turned, and StarEagle sent his opponent packing with a 2-0 score.

The tense Grand Final looked sure to go StarEagle’s way as he beat JeaL 2-0 in the first round, evening the scores. The second round saw each player win a match, so it all rested on the third – which finally went to JeaL.
