Starcraft 2 news » GSL November Champion Crowned
The Global StarCraft II League just wrapped up its November installment with an epic Grand Finals series between Jung "jjakji" Ji Hoon and Lee "Leenock" Dong Nyung for glory and a prize pool of 50,000,000 KRW.
The first game in any StarCraft II competition is always crucial; having a strong opening will set the tempo for the series, and can swing the momentum in your favor. This is exactly what jjakji did on Tal’Darim Altar in his first game against Leenock. Jjakji took an early lead by killing several hundred minerals’ worth of speedlings with a well-orchestrated trap. He then capitalized on his lead by denying several of Leenock’s expansions before pushing his advantage for the win.
Riding on his momentum from the first game, jjakji was able to show the crowd just how dominant he truly can be. The crafty terran used a 3-rax factory all-in on Crossfire and took Leenock by complete surprise. Despite Leenock’s best efforts, his zerg defenses could not endure and he was forced to gg for the second set.
Down but not out, Leenock was able to demonstrate just why he won MLG Providence in the third and fourth game. Even though jjakji’s attacks and harassment were merciless on Daybreak, Leenock’s defense held just enough to bring the score to 2-1. Using a combination of zergling/muta and expertly executed baneling traps, Leenock also fought through the next game on Bel’Shir Beach to tie the series 2-2.
For game five, jjakji was able to masterfully execute an unexpected timing attack on Dual Sight, catching Leenock off guard again. Leenock tried his best to beat back the terran attack, but jjakji’s continued harassment at Leenock’s main was enough to end the game, giving jjakji a 3-2 lead.
With ultimate victory just over the horizon, jjakji went into the sixth game on Calm Before the Storm with the determination of a champion. A series of brilliant decisions under pressure allowed jjakji to muster enough forces to defend his base while launching a simultaneous offensive. As the critical mass of siege tanks, marines, and Thors piled up in front of Leenock’s base, he had no choice but to fold.
After six grueling games, jjakji defeated MLG Providence winner Leenock in a decisive 4-2 victory. Please join us in congratulating NSHoSeo_jjakji, the GSL November champion!
