Starcraft 2 news » Tips and Resources for Arcade Developers
Rock the Cabinet 2015 is well on its way and we’ve already seen several promising projects on the Arcade Showcase forums. We wanted to share some information and resources for Arcade developers who may be new to the scene. For some of our more veteran developers, this will all be very familiar, but we’d love to hear of any tips you can offer to those just starting out.
One of the best places to look for support is the well-established modding communities. SC2Mapster has a wealth of knowledge and is home to a crew of veteran mapmakers. You can also check out Gamasutra, which has a lot of in-depth articles about game development and game theory. The Hive Workshop focuses on Warcraft III modding, but it’s still a storehouse of information that can be useful to the StarCraft modder.
On top of that, /r/gamedev will, from time to time, have useful resources for aspiring developers. For example, here are some links to artists who are offering free music that you could use in your games:
Similarly, here’s an artist who has been cool enough to share some of his work with the subreddit. You can find all of his freely-available work here:
These are just a few resources that have caught our eye, but there’s way more out there if you take the time to look. For our more veteran developers, where do you go for inspiration and guidance? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
