Starcraft 2 news » Forum Improvements Ahead
Whether you’re a regular visitor to our forums or only view them from time to time, we’ve got some exciting details to share with you!
Within a few weeks, you’ll be seeing significant visual updates to the look and layout of the SC2 forums. Below is a breakdown of two major additions you’ll see in our upcoming forum patch, plus details on some smaller yet equally valuable features we’ve been working on.
Improved Interface
For starters, you’ll notice we’ve streamlined and visually improved the forums. Text should be cleaner and less crowded and we’ve applied a new, more modern design. Check out the comparison below of our old and new splash pages.
Mobile Functionality
In addition, as more of you use mobile devices to access our forums, we're keeping in step by adding responsive design to our user interface. Soon, you’ll be able to effortlessly discuss the topics you care about on more devices than ever before!
Cleaner Structure
In addition to the above, we’re also doing some much needed tidying of our forum structure.
- Joeyray’s Bar is being merged into the Story forum
- Melee Map Showcase, Arcade Game Showcase, and Custom Mods are being merged into a new Map Showcase forum
- Tutorials, Melee Maps, Terrain, Data, Trigger, AI and Galaxy Scripting, User Interface, Art Tools and Cutscenes, Editor Issues and Miscellaneous are being merged into a new Editor Discussion forum
- Data Analysis and Website Issues are being merged into the Bug Report forum
- Games, Gaming and Hardware, Movies, TV and Entertainment, Books and Comics, and Technology and Science are being merged into a new Off Topic Discussion forum
- Multiplayer and Esports is being merged into the General Discussion forum
There are also some features that aren’t as useful as they once were, so we intend to clean up a few areas by removing excessive functionalities. While the Popular Topics bar had its uses, it wasn’t performing as well as we’d hoped. Similarly, while the BlizzTracker bar has been useful for tracking Blizzard posts, we’d much rather find better ways to surface valuable player conversations.
Existing Features
One of the most important goals of our revamp was to maintain as many past forum features as possible. While these may not be shiny and new like the above features, a lot of work went into ensuring that the most valuable functions would be preserved. We hope you continue to enjoy them!
Please note: The images you see below are from the forum prototype, and as such include topics from other Blizzard game forums. The final version will only include StarCraft II topics.
Get Those Typing Fingers Ready
As mentioned above, we anticipate these changes to roll out within a few weeks. Even so, there's still plenty of time to stretch your hands, flex those mental muscles, and practice kickboxing a tiny punching bag with your fingers, as you get ready for a glorious new day in Blizzard forum history!
