Starcraft 2 news » StarCraft II Emoticon Contest Winner
We’re proud to announce the winners of our StarCraft II Emoticon contest! Contestants were challenged to create works of art with just 60 pixels. Submissions poured in and our artists and designers had the tough job of only choosing three. We’ll let our lead UI designer, Christopher ‘Crash’ Reed and his team announce the winners and share their thoughts.
It was difficult to narrow it down to just 3 choices as there were many really cool emoticon submissions.
We judged the entries based upon criteria such as:
- Quality
- Readability
- Usability
- Expressiveness
- Submission Rules
After much deliberation we have arrived at these 3 fine works of art to join our emoticon family.

Dev Comment: This piece is really expressive and very cute for only being 30x30 pixels. The quality and readability are quite high.
Trophy Gold Submitted by: GribbyGrubb
United States of America
Dev Comment: There were quite a few trophy submissions, but this one really hit the style mark for us. I can see this being used today after winning a tourney!
Coffee-Time Submitted by: Groccel
Russia
Dev Comment: The expressiveness and fun factor is great with this emoticon. I mean… who doesn’t want to try Zerg coffee.
Congratulations to the three winners and thank you again to everyone who participated in the contest. We’ll get to work implementing these awesome new emoticons into StarCraft II. Look out for them in a future content patch.
