World of Warcraft news » Achievement Hunting: Cataclysm
Achievements in World of Warcraft are both a record of your accomplishments and a way to look forward to memorable moments that await you. Every Achievement tells a part of your story, and a few come with rewards such as pets, titles, and even mounts. You can see why so many people love to go Achievement hunting.
Cataclysm Timewalking
The current bonus event is an opportunity to visit six dungeons that were a part of the Cataclysm expansion: Grim Batol, The Stonecore, Lost City of Tol’vir, The Vortex Pinnacle, Throne of the Tides, and End Time. Dungeons can only mean one thing: dungeon Achievements! There are a lot of those, and this is the perfect opportunity to work yourself toward a wondrous reward. (More on that later.)
Acrocalypse Now
First up, keep your eyes peeled for an opportunity to go on a killing spree in Lost City of Tol’vir. Acrocalypse Now requires you to kill 20 crocolisks within 10 seconds during the Lockmaw encounter. That means taking the time to move around the swampy area to the left and right of the path and kite the crocolisks that spawn there while also dealing with Lockmaw. Once you’ve got twenty of the six-legged freaks[1] rounded up, kill them!
This is an Achievement that you certainly don’t want to spring on the others in your party, but it’s also one that can be easily gotten, so long as your comrades are willing to participate.
Don’t Need to Break Eggs to Make an Omelet
In Grim Batol, the final fight against Erudax is punctuated by the repeated emergence of a pair of Faceless Corruptors. The Don’t Need to Break Eggs to Make an Omelet Achievement requires that you get through the fight without letting a Faceless Corruptor begin to cast Twilight Corruption[2] on any of Alexstrasza's eggs. After each of Erudax’s Shadow Gales, the Corruptors will spawn from the portal at one end of the room, and it’s your job to focus damage and snares on them to take them out before they get over to the eggs.
Put a priority on your snares for the win here. While this Achievement is technically a DPS challenge, you can earn it without stellar DPS if everyone comes together to use their abilities that slow and/or stop the Faceless Corruptors.
Glory of the Cataclysm Hero
How’s this for an Achievement reward? If you complete all of its requisite sub-Achievements, Glory of the Cataclysm Hero comes with the Volcanic Stone Drake for your mount collection. It might be your new favorite mount![3]
It’s not possible to earn the entire meta-Achievement through Timewalking, because there are requirements that can only be earned in other dungeons (such as Deadmines or Shadowfang Keep). Nonetheless, there’s no time like the present to work on getting yourself the present of a sweet ride.
[1] Have you even noticed that crocolisks have six legs? It’s true!
[2] I used to play bass in Twilight Corruption.
[3] You’re allowed to have more than one favorite, of course.
