With IntelEM Kiev on the horizon, many eSports organizations are scrambling to seize this final opportunity to secure a spot at the IntelEM World Championship in Hannover, Germany. This, combined with a few changes to the IntelEM tournament bracket, has made for an interesting week in the League of Legends eSports scene.
In the wake of A Picture of a Goose’s announcement that they will be unable to attend IntelEM Kiev for personal and financial regions, Curse Gaming was offered the open position and will be able to attend in their place. In addition, there was a licensing dispute surrounding team CLG.eu, formerly known as mTw-AL, which resulted in the license lapsing. The ESL has informed us that SK-Gaming, the fourth-placing team in the final qualifier, will be attending IEM Kiev in their stead.
Welcome to the Jax Champion Spotlight, summoners! For those who aren’t quite familiar with Jax, he’s a melee fighter and an exceptional duelist, able to quickly close into melee against his enemies. The end of Snowdown Showdown this year in Valoran marks the beginning of the Lunar Revel! While it began as an Ionian holiday, the Lunar Revel has since been adopted by many of the nations of Valoran as a time to celebrate the possibilities of the future with the coming of the new moon. Revelers hang ornate lanterns to represent the moon, and fireworks light up the skies burning away unhappy memories and representing the bright future ahead.

In the latest patch we’re finalizing our Dodge stat remakes, which, among others, means some exciting new changes for your favorite Grandmaster at Arms. In addition to some new gameplay, we’ve also given Jax a few new animations and spell effects to accompany his new mechanics.
To kick things off, let’s start with a preview of some of the new mechanics that we’re working with in Jax’s new kit. Jax’s core ability Counter Strike had previously relied on Dodging to trigger its effect. While the mechanics of the ability were strong, its reliance on a random event made it difficult to rely on at best, particularly if the enemy team favored Ability Power champions for damage.

Next week starting on Thursday the 19th of January, the battle for Intel Extreme Masters Global Challenge Kiev will begin. Taking place at the Cyber Sport Arena in Kiev, Ukraine, the top eight teams from all over North America, Europe and Asia will do battle once again over an $12,000 grand prize. The holidays have come and gone, and this past week saw the conclusion of the final event of 2011!
The Counter Logic Gaming Last Call Tournament featured 64 teams, and came down to an exciting final between Dignitas (featuring their new jungler I Will Dominate) and Epik, who was using v8esports’ Aphromoo as a temporary substitute for Dan Dinh. In the end, it was Dignitas who claimed the grand prize with Epik taking second and CLG 3rd.
The IPL, which ran the IPL 3 Origin preseason Challenger Circuit event, has just announced the launch of their Prized Event tournament series: the IPL Killing Spree. Unlike the standard IPL events, the Killing Spree Tournament Series will feature weekly matches in a King of the Hill format. Each week, new challengers will appear to attempt to dethrone last week’s reigning champion. The longer each champion holds their top spot, the more money they will earn from each victory!

We are pleased to announce that the Dodge rune refund has been completed. At this juncture all Dodge runes have been removed from your inventory and runebook and replaced by their value in Influence Points.
Remember that Dodge runes are still available from the League of Legends Store until all Dodge remakes have been completed. If you would like to continue to use your current Dodge build until that time you are welcome to repurchase your runes if you so choose. Once the process of removing the Dodge stat from the game has been completed, you will receive another refund for any Dodge runes that you might have purchased in the interim.
