Before each major event, the competitive site editorial staff analyzes the relative strength of the Challenger Circuit teams going into the next event. This series is aimed at promoting discussion around the strongest contenders of the moment in a given region.
Since we last got down to talking about the Tribunal – our unique system designed to empower League of Legends players to judge cases of player harassment – quite a few of you have gotten involved. In fact, the League of Legends community has cast over 16 million votes to either punish or pardon those summoners reported for negatively impacting games. And of the people who are punished, 50% reform and improve their behavior, never to enter the Tribunal again!
Surprised? There’s a lot to say about the important role the Tribunal plays in helping to keep the League of Legends community a fun and friendly place to play. That’s what makes it so important that you do your part by voting on your Tribunal cases if you’re level 30!

One of the hidden gems in the community, Go4LoL has quietly run dozens of weekly tournaments awarding thousands of dollars in the process. And what’s more, they’ve recently announced their intention to double the prize money available in future tournaments! We’ve watched League of Legends grow from a small game with a dedicated group of beta testers to a massive, worldwide online gaming phenomenon. Observing players like you put their talents to work in the form of fan created content, however, has been just as impressive as witnessing the growth of the League of Legends community.

Since early spring, we’ve been working with you through the Tribunal to identify those summoners who have had a negative impact on your play experience. For your efforts, and to celebrate the holiday season, we thought it was a good time to thank all those summoners who’ve made a point upholding the Summoner’s Code this year. If you’re over level 6 and haven’t been banned from League of Legends in the past two months, you’re in line to receive 450 Riot Points as a gift from the co-founders and all of us here at Riot Games in appreciation.
We’ve already begun the process of distributing these Riot Points to you, and elegibility of summoners was determined two days ago. But there are an awful lot of good sports out there in the community, so we estimate that everyone should have their Riot Points by December 28, 2011 at midnight. Not too long ago we mentioned we’d be making some changes to ranked pre-made queues. We’ve got a brand new feature to share with you: Ranked teams! In the place of arranged 3v3 and 5v5 team matchmaking will be a system in which you can create a permanent, named group to take to the Fields of Justice! When Season Two kicks off, you and your friends can band together under a unified identity with one name, tag and Elo rating.
Ranked teams will allow you to easily organize your teams and track their progress. Each ranked team will have a captain who has the power to invite or remove members. You can then queue for a 5v5 or 3v3 ranked game as a team with any five (or three, on Twisted Treeline) members of your team. As your teams play together, their Elo rating will be calculated by how well your teams perform, independent of individual ratings.

At Riot, we like to provide a variety of champion styles, archetypes, and roles. Sometimes, we like to release a champion with an understood, defined role (such as Graves), while with others we try to shake up the traditional roles and offer a different way to impact the game. Fizz, the Tidal Trickster, is a perfect example of this. He splashes down somewhere in the melee assassin space, but in ways that change the role a bit -- especially compared to other assassins like Akali or Talon.
Fizz is able to pressure high-value targets like an assassin, but makes frequent use of evasive abilities and favors sustained damage over burst. This creates a different sort of hit-and-run gameplay style that allows this little amphibian to dance around the battlefield, using evasion to stay alive and keep the opponent guessing.

They say that, following a good brainstorm session, the good ideas just float to the top.
