IPL3: Origins saw a preseason battle royale between teams in Atlantic City, with $20,000 in collective prize money at stake as well as the title of IGN Pro League Champion. The competition moves to the next level this coming spring, when IPL 4 arrives at the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Tickets are still available from the IGN Pro League event site. Our next stop on the League of Legends World Tour brings us to Poland. With well over 1000 years of national history, this culturally rich central European nation also boasts a longstanding presence in the online gaming space.
While First Person Shooters titles were the primary interest of most Polish players at the time League of Legends launched in Europe, Poland was quick to embrace the game right when the European platform opened its doors in October 2009. Although the Polish language was added to the European platform in February 2011 – more than a year after League of Legends arrived on the continent – many Polish players were already passionate members of the community at this point.
It was this immediate show of support for the game that made Poland the obvious choice for our first post-launch European expansion. Once the Polish language beta opened to the public the response was equally impressive, and Poland has since become one of the biggest single-language territories in Europe.

PAX East 2012 kicks off in Boston, MA, on Friday, April 6th and runs until Sunday, April 8th. That same weekend, the best League of Legends teams face off in the IPL4 finals in Las Vegas. We’re making sure you don’t miss a minute of the action … no matter where you are.

Last week, we published our article on the teams of group A of the groupstage at the Intel Extreme Masters World Championship. This week we bring you group B, which features one of the most intense groups we’ve seen in a League of Legends Tournament.

While their performance at IntelEM Kiev was impressive, Team SoloMid has had some issues performing up to their own expectations in online events. Losing the semi-finals during the LoLpro.com invitational to Counter Logic Gaming and then losing in the IPL Killing Spree to Monomatic eSports, it’s unknown how the team will perform at Hannover. However, as they are the most seasoned team in their group, and have performed extremely well at their last two live appearances. Betting against them in the group stage seems unwise.

The next stop on our League of Legends World Tour brings us back to mainland Europe, where we visit France. France has a long history of online competitive gaming, with the RTS, MMORPG, and MOBA genres forming the backbone of the scene. This predisposition to the genre sparked immediate interest in League of Legends amongst French players, many of whom began their League of Legends careers in the very early phases of the beta.
Since the European platform opened its doors on October 2009, interest in the game has steadily increased, making France one of the largest single-language communities in Europe. As a matter of fact, in 2011 alone the French population in League of Legends nearly doubled in size! While French players primarily choose to do their gaming from home, France still has a well-established cyber café network. Many French summoners, particularly students, can be found spending their lunch break taking in a couple quick battles on the Fields of Justice.

Welcome to the Fiora Champion Spotlight, summoners! Fiora’s biggest strength is her speed. She uses this speed to maneuver around battle, evade opponents, counter-attack, and eviscerate the competition with swift swipes from her sword. Her play style revolves around choosing the perfect moment to enter into the fray, chopping up her competition with little room for recourse. Successful combat will keep her health up and her cooldowns ready for another engagement. For those interested in learning a new melee carry, take a look at the Fiora Champion Spotlight!

On the 16th of January we asked summoners like you to submit their best Lunar Revel themed artwork to the Art of Revelry Contest! These entries featured some of your favorite champions of the League ringing in the Lunar Year in style. Since the New Year brings renewal and new beginnings, we decided to put some top gear from our friends over at Alienware, ASTRO and Logitech up as prizes!
As of the 15th of February, the contest has officially come to a close, leaving us to sift through the massive number of entries in search of those special few who would take home the swag! We got thousands of awesome submissions, but even amongst all this talent and enthusiasm a few masterpieces really stood out.
And so, without further ado, here are the grand prize winners!

Welcome to the Fiora Patch Preview, summoners! In the Patch Preview, we’ll be looking into gameplay changes for existing champions, items, and other gameplay, as opposed to information about Fiora herself. It’s been quite a while since we’ve had the opportunity to explore the design space of a true melee carry in League of Legends. Fiora, the Grand Duelist, is our first all-out take on this type of champion since our initial launch, and our new addition to this role has let us really focus on a particular aspect: speed.
Not content to leave melee to the guys with oversized weapons, Fiora makes up for it in raw agility and lightning speed, using a fencer’s grace to shred opponents apart and keep herself in the fight. One way she utilizes this is by parrying her enemy’s attacks if she times it right. Parrying returns damages in the same swipe, making enemies think twice before directing attacks at her.
