Minecraft news » Print Custom Minecraft Figurines at Minecon!

Are you headed to Minecon 2016 this year? Among the events and activities, one thing you should check out is this awesome joint project between toy-making juggernaut Mattel, and digital app gurus at 57Digital: a skin-printing app that lets you make your own Minecraft figurine!

How it works is pretty straightfoward: craft the look of your unique figure by using an actual skin from Minecraft. Mattel creates and prints a custom label based on your in-game skin (or one of the exclusive as-yet-unrevealed MINECON 2016 designs), then you stick it onto the figure (which can be bought for $15*) at the booth. Bam, instant toy of your Minecraft character! Sweet.

Wait, how does 57Digital factor in to this? If you use your in-game skin, it's already made! That is true, though not everyone will want to make a figurine based on their character. What if you want to design one, right there on the floor? That's where the magic of 57Digital's app comes in handy: Skin Studio, for iOS and Android, allows players to create their custom skins right on their phones! Once complete, you can take it up to the booth, where they will print out the sticker sheet as before. Instant custom figurine!

Keep in mind that the "hat" layer of skins will not print - only textures directly on the body will come out correctly. Additionally, it's a good idea to have the skin you want to use ready to go before reaching the booth, to make sure everyone gets a chance!

Minecon is fast approaching. Can't wait!
