Starcraft 2 news » Food. Drink. StarCraft II. Better than Football?

RTS Guru writer Alexander Brown took to the pubs of London (England, that is) to find out if the StarCraft II eSports scene was worth the hype in his new editorial, “London Barcraft: Better than Football.”

*snip*

One mistaken assumption people have about eSports is that is an exclusively online world, taking the e (electronic) a little too literally. But once you enter the vibrant, enthusiastic world of eSports you soon learn that there is more to it than just a computer screen.

With all this growth, physical representation in the offline world has slowly become a very real thing for eSports. With the introduction of Barcraft, a phenomenon that was born in spring 2011 alongside the start of the North American Star League, we see this fact highlighted even more. Barcraft began when o_Oskar on Reddit announced that people could go to a bar in Seattle to watch that day's NASL games. Since then Barcrafts have popped up all over America, Sweden, UK and Canada with the help of Team Liquid, ESL and various other gaming communities.
