Starcraft 2 news » WCS - Russian Federation and Ukraine Nationals

The next national event in the StarCraft II World Championship Series takes place July 21 and 22 at the CyberSport Arena in Kiev, Ukraine. The line-up will include the top eight Ukrainian and top 16 Russian StarCraft II players. They’ll be fighting it out not only for fantastic prize pools of $5,000 USD and $15,000 USD respectively, but also for two Ukrainian and three Russian slots in the Europe Finals.

Ukraine Nationals

Who will claim the Ukrainian title? Will Oleksii “White-Ra” Krupnyk live up to his nickname, the “Beast from the East”? Will another favorite such as Eugin “Strelok” Oparyshev, Mihaylo “Kas” Hayda, or Aleksandr “Bly” Svusuyk take the crown? Or will it be one of the new up-and-coming players?

After months of producing great online results, Igor “fraer” Turchin recently showed a breakthrough performance at DreamHack Summer 2012. We’ll see if he can follow through with another great showing at the Ukraine Nationals. That is, if he isn’t stopped by one of the consistently strong ladder players making a splash in the tournament scene!

Russian Federation Nationals

With so much at stake and such an abundance of talent, it’s almost impossible to predict the winner. The Russian Federation Nationals will feature a great mix of players, with established names like Oleg “TitaN” Kuptsov, Dmitry “Happy” Kostin, and Artem “sLivko” Garavtsov. Let’s not forget RTS old schoolers such as Sergei “Pomi” Rodionov, Yuri “Neytpoh” Karev, and Aleksey “Abver” Drunin, as well as several other solid players waiting to show their stuff. The competition is bound to be fierce and exciting!
