Starcraft 2 news » Make us Smile – StarCraft II Emoticon Contest

We recently unleashed the majesty and beauty of emoticons in StarCraft II. Smiley faces, thumbs up, and most importantly, poo now fill our public chat channels and we couldn’t be happier with the results. So much so that we want more. We want to see what cool emoticons you can design. We’re going to pick three winners whose art will be implemented into StarCraft II. We’ll also use your name or battletag as an alternate command to summon work. So people in chat will type [yournamehere] and viola, your awesome custom emoji will appear.

Before you pull out your tablet, let’s go over the guidelines for creating these mini works of art.

  • File Format: PNG
  • Emoticon Size: 30 x 30 pixels
  • No animated emoticons.
  • While StarCraft themed emoticons are obviously encouraged, please do not use characters or items from other Blizzard franchises. Sorry Tracer fans.
  • No characters or themes from other games, movies, or other media!
  • See complete rules here.

So now that we have the rules out of the way, here are some suggestions to get you started. The emoticons you make can be many things, including:

  • Emotions:
  • StarCraft Units & Buildings:
  • Icons:
  • Expressions:
  • Non-StarCraft Objects:

So you’re ready to submit your masterpiece. Here’s how:

  • Send your emoticons as an attachment to SC2Communityteam@blizzard.com.
  • The subject line should read: “StarCraft II Emoticon Contest [YOUR NAME]” with your actual name of course.
  • You can send one or up to five unique emoticons.
  • The body of the email should contain your residential country and state or province.

That’s it!

We will be accepting submissions from today until Wednesday, October 12. Our judges will then spend the rest of the week picking three emoticons as winners. A person can only win once so we won’t choose more than one emoticon from a single entrant. We will then announce the three winners the week of October 17. See the complete rules here.

So start cranking out those pixels. We’re excited to see what awesome ideas you have. Good luck and have fun!
