League of Legends news » Korea's Best Teams: OGN's "The Champions"

Summoners!

Korea’s most watched eSports show is back with the second season of The Champions. Streamed live on Twitch, Own3d, the OGN League of Legends site and on TV in Korea, The Champions is the perfect opportunity for League of Legends eSports fans to watch some awesome international competition.

OGN’s first season saw a relative newcomer defeat some heavy favorites from across the globe. Champions Azubu Blaze emerged victorious over some names familiar to Western eSports fans. They knocked out HotshotGG’s CLG as well as FnaticRaidCall on their way to the finals, in which they squared off against another Korean team: Azubu Frost.

Frost was the better-known team, and a significant portion of the 5,000-person crowd in the Kintex Korean Exhibition Center were cheering against the eventual champions, who are set to defend their title in OGN’s Season Two of The Champions, which has just concluded its first round of group play.

The competition is even tougher this season: CLG is back and joined by fellow North American team Dignitas. Two new European teams join them: CLG.eu and Na’Vi, and the best China has to offer has entered the fray as well - the winners of IntelEM Guangzhou, World Elite. Eleven Korean teams accompany the international group, including Azubu Blaze; runners up Azubu Frost; and fan favorites Naijin Sword, Startale, and Xenic Storm.
Last year’s winner, Azubu Blaze, is off to a great start, having swept Group A 3-0. World Elite racked up two victories over Naijin Shield and GJR to finish 2-1.

This week, Group B begins with a highly anticipated match between Team Dignitas and Naijin Sword. The broadcast goes live July 11th, 4:30 AM Pacific time. Matches occur every Wednesday and Friday, starting at 3:30 AM Pacific time.
