The third League of Legends season is officially underway!
The results of the European and North American League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) qualifiers are in, and the best teams in esports are all poised to take their first steps on the road to the World Championship. On February 7, the first of these world-class competitors will clash live on the esports pro site in free HD. Each week thereafter, more of your favorite teams will compete for dominance in Season 3.

League System
- The League System has arrived for ranked play!
- Players and teams will now be placed into a League upon finishing their placement matches
- Leagues are assigned to a skill tier and are split into divisions, e.g. Gold IV
- Winning and losing matches will now cause you to gain and lose of League Points (LP)
- Advancing to 100 LP will now start a Division or Promotion Series
- Top players and teams can now advance to the Challenger tier, which is visible to all in the client
- Champion losses and win ratios will no longer be displayed to other players
- Elo ratings have been replaced by matchmaking ratings (MMR) which are no longer displayed
- The time penalties for queue dodging have been shortened and an LP penalty has been added
The Electronic Sports League (ESL) heads to Sao Paulo, Brazil from January 31 to February 3 for its last stop before the IEM Season 7 Finals. Eight teams from around the globe will compete for $50,000 in prizes and a chance to play in the tournament at CeBIT 2013 in March.

Tune in to the European Qualifier from 10:00am to 11:00pm CET to watch as the top sixteen challenger teams in Europe converge on Warsaw, Poland, and battle head-to-head for a chance at a professional gaming career in the League of Legends Championship Series (LCS).
The sixteen teams will compete in a four round robin single elimination group stages. The top two teams in each group will then advance to a best-of-three single elimination bracket. The winners of this round of 8 bracket will automatically secure four spots in the LCS, while the remaining four will fight for the final spot on Sunday, January 27.

As a tanky support, Thresh can initiate, disengage and generally disrupt team fights throughout the game. With good communication, Thresh’s ability to control a fight by displacing enemies and repositioning allies can open new avenues of attack and enable epic escapes. In this video, we’ll run through all of his abilities as well as sample runes and masteries, and share a few useful tips you can use to impale your opponents on the warden’s spectral chains.
This weekend marks the conclusion of Pre-Season in Europe, where the European Qualifier will send five top contenders to compete in the new League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) alongside Gambit Gaming (formerly Moscow Five), SK Gaming, and former CLG.eu.

The Electronic Sports League (ESL) hosts its first Intel Extreme Masters (IEM) offline event of 2013 at Katowice, Poland, from January 18 through January 20. Eight teams from Korea, North America and Europe will compete for $34,000 in prizes and a chance to qualify for the upcoming IEM World Finals at CeBIT 2013.
Live from the Spodek arena, Gambit Gaming (formerly Moscow Five), MYM, Curse Gaming, Azubu Blaze, SK Gaming, FnaticRC, Absolute Legends, and Azubu Frost will meet on the Fields of Justice. There they’ll battle in group stages with the winners advancing to a single elimination bracket. The top two teams will qualify for IEM’s season finals in addition to taking home the lion’s share of the prize pool.

The League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) burst into action with the North American Qualifier, broadcast live from Los Angeles, California. Sixteen teams, some veterans and some dark horses, battled for five spots in the LCS.
