World of Tanks news » Rise of the Americas: Clan Wars Update

Tankers!

We would like to thank everyone who was involved with first phase of the event and offer our apologies to those that were not able to participate.

We are moving forward with the second phase of the event, and will continue to open more of the map with additional landing zones.

Rise of the Americas: Unclaimed Glory

Phase One

Phase One ran last night and was themed around a "land grab" of four major provinces in the United States. The winners of each landing battle claimed the entire surrounding region and will have to try to hold out against additional landings during Phase II.

The winning clans from last night will receive a special achievement medal for all of their members based on the area in which they claimed:

The landing battle for the New York region ended in a draw, so the medal and surrounding regions are left unclaimed. The status of the unclaimed medal will be announced soon, but the unclaimed provinces will be available for capture in Phase II.

Chips from last night's battle will be refunded before the start of the next phase.

Phase Two

Phase two of Unclaimed Glory will be the major portion of this release, and will allow clans to capture the remaining provinces. January 27th at 05:00 PST (8AM EST) and will end at 02:00 PST on February 7, 2013. Use this handy Time Zone Converter to find out what time this starts in your region.

The tier III restriction will still be in place for the remainder of this event, but the landing zones will revert to what will be their standard locations.

  • Rochester, MN -- Lakeville
  • Highlands, MI -- Redshire
  • Shreveport, LA -- Live Oaks
  • Montgomery, AL -- Highway
  • Savannah, GA -- Live Oaks
  • Raleigh, NC -- Ensk
  • Delaware -- Seaport
  • Rhode Island – Cliff

Clans who manage to capture and hold the major provinces from Phase One, will be awarded with these special achievement medals for their members:

In addition to the medals, these Clans will receive gold for all provinces controlled at the end of the Unclaimed Glory event (excluding the landing province) x 50,000 gold. For example, if you hold NYC and 3 other provinces, your clan treasury will receive 3 x 50,000 = 150, 000

Finally, every clan that owns a province on the map (but does not own one of the original four critical provinces) will receive 10,000 gold per province owned on the map at the end of the Unclaimed Glory event. For example, if you hold 5 provinces (and none of them are one of the original 4 landing provinces) you will receive 5 x 10,000= 50, 000

The gold reward will be automatically deposited into the Clan treasury roughly 72 hours after the end of the Unclaimed Glory event. Once this phase is complete, whatever the condition of the territories is, that will be the make up of the NA Clan Wars Map. Meaning, there will NOT be a wipe of the map, the map will stay as it is at the end of this event.

Once the event has ended at 02:00 PST on February 7, 2013 the new North American Clan Wars map will revert to the standard Clan Wars rules with no tier restrictions. All the battles on the Eastern portion of the USA will then follow all the normal Clan Wars rules, with no tier restrictions.

We would like to provide you with answers to frequently asked questions surrounding this event and appreciate the comments you have given us so far:

FAQ

Would it be possible to end all the events and open the map with the normal Clan Wars rules?
Based on community feedback, we wiped and opened the European and African maps with no tier restrictions. If you do not want to participate in the event, you can take part in regular Clan Wars in those regions. They are currently following normal Clan Wars rules.

It appears that the clans that made it to play last night also contain members of WG staff so those clans likely got the benefit of inside information since they got to place their chips first.
Wargaming employees are prohibited to join in any clans aside from the official one, and are also prohibited from participating in Clan Wars. Additionally, we treat all players in the same way regardless of clan size, skill, or length of time playing the game.

The way that the event was designed, it seems as if was simply a mechanism for the bigger clans to make easy gold - why do this?
We don’t feel this event was aimed at catering to larger clans; everyone had the same opportunities to win. Additionally, clans that do manage to take territory in the second phase, but do not control any of the original four landing provinces, will be receiving 10,000 gold per province.

We really didn't have a chance at winning anything, so why even try?
You only have a chance if you try. Phase two of Unclaimed Glory will bring more landing provinces, yielding more opportunities for you to test your skills. Additionally, you will have more chances at conquering land during the 2nd Rise of the Americas event: Westward Bound.

The first part of the event is over, will any of the other Rise of the Americas events offer medals and gold?
The second part of the event, Westward Bound, will provide gold and achievements. Clans that have already landed during the Rise of the Americas event will not be able to apply for the landing zones during the Westward Bound event seeing as they already have land. This leaves more opportunities for other clans.

Are the new landing zones going to be open today?
No, they will open tomorrow according to the announced time: January 27th at 5AM PST (8AM EST). The delay in opening the landing zones is to ensure that all the clans that placed chips during the first phase of the event have them ready to place immediately upon the start of the second phase. We have made sure to have staff on hand to make sure there are no errors during this application stage.

Why did the map open so early? What happened?
The event started 1 hour 50 minutes earlier due to human error. This issue was addressed, and will be avoided in the future. The process for creating and planning Clan Wars events is being overhauled so that errors such as this will be avoided.

Can you give us a clearer schedule with dates surrounding the North American map release? What is going to happen to Europe?
Europe won't be wiped till the end of February. Here is a more detailed schedule:
-This event lasts till 7th of February
-There will be a 3-5 work day pause between first and second Phases (dates to be announced soon)
 - Phase II lasts for 11 days, from January 27th to February 7, where we will then close the map and begin the second event, opening the western part of the USA. All tier restrictions will then be removed from the Eastern portion of the USA.

If there was an error, then why wasn't the event postponed? This could have alleviated a lot of the concerns and unfairness felt by the players.
Unfortunately, the error occurred as the event was launched. We are working on making future events run more smoothly. Several factors had to weighed; ultimately, we decided not to wipe the map. These factors included feedback, technical limitations, the timing of the error (on the weekend), and many others. In the future, we will be allowing clans to only apply for landing on one landing zone instead of all of them, but we were not able to make this happen for this event.

It would have helped if all the information regarding the event was posted in one place instead of several. Also, assuming that all the players knew the basics of Clan Wars made the events confusing for those not as experienced.
We do acknowledge that there were issues with informing players. We will make sure that all technical details will be available in one location for upcoming events.

It seems that some players have a direct line to the WG staff, how is that possible?
Everyone can report issues to employees via forum private messages and receive direct input from Developers. We always strive to take the time to answer all of the questions and comments sent to us. If you are part of a clan, you may also ask to have a clan representative join the Council of Armored forces, giving your clan representative access to the CoAF Skype channel.

How were the 64 participants determined?
It was done on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, using the normal Clan Wars rules of landing tournaments. All landing tournaments have always been limited to 64 participants.

When I applied for the landing tournament, it showed I was in 29th place. Why I was not then seeded in the first 64?
The current mechanics of Global Map refreshes the number of applications for landing after each turn. This means that though it seemed that only 28 clans applied before you, in reality there could have been many more of them.

Clans that want to land in NA currently cannot as there aren't enough landing zones, will that change?
We will be assessing the current situation in the upcoming days, and will add more landing zones if the need arises.

What was the main reasoning behind the wiping of the Africa and Europe maps?
There were about 90+ clans that held land on those maps. If we had not wiped the map, they would not have been able to land in North America.
